Unit 3 Projects
This is my slab bowl built on a slump mold. First I rolled out the slab and placed it on the slump mold then compressed it to shape onto the slump mold. Once it was almost leather hard I trimmed it to be in a bowl shape. I left it out to dry them removed it from the mold, sanded the rough edges and then began to underglaze it. I first took white and did it all over, then I underglaze the strawberries on with 2 different reds, and 2 different greens, I used a purple color for the blueberries and 2 different greens. once that dried I added seed detailing to the strawberries using brown and green. I fired it once, then glazed it with clear gloss and fired it a second time.
This is my darted cup. First I built a slab and cut 2 of the sides at the same angle I then slip and scored those 2 sides together creating a circle. I then formed the circle into a soft square and marked the 4 corners and 1 point in between, I darted the corners together and added a rounded circular piece to create the bottom. I then smoothed it out an fired it. After I fired it I glazed it and I wish a did a couple more coats.
This is my coil pot. It took me approximately 3 weeks to make. I used a put with a bagger it for the mold. I first started on the bottom by rolling out a circular coil, then moved the lower bottom, I slipped and scored the zigzag coils together and smoothed the seam out. I then did a straight coil on top of that coil for support. After this I added a twist coil and slipped and scored it on. The next coil I did was a circle of circular coils, I slipped and scored each of them on. The last one I did was a straight coil, I slipped and scored it on. Once I finished that I filled all the holes and waited til it was leather hard to take it off the mold. After I took it off the mold I smoothed out the inside by adding very very moist, soft wet clay to the inside and using a wood tool to smooth it out. After I finished I fired it once, then added the crystal glaze and I wish I did one more coat, then fired it again and now it holds a plant in my kitchen.
This is my second relief tile. I rolled out a leather hard piece of clay into a slab and then marked the placed the groves would be. I then slipped and scored a lump of clay on for the head and body of the turtle. I shaped it into a turtle and began to carve out the waves. Once I did I cleaned up the lines and added a turtle shell. I let this become bone dry, however when I sanded it out 2 piece broke off so I threw it in the slop bucket.
This is my attempt at sgraffito. I first rolled out a slab them molded it to a pie dish, once I did I began to under glaze it in peach, once I did I carved out the Cherrys and colored them. Where I went wrong was I carved the entire cherry out and then I colored it in, which I know not to do. I fired it and clear glazed it. I fired it once again and the glaze cracked off of it which ruined the piece. I am going to reattempt to do sgraffito again.
