Unit 5 Projects
This is my Bust project. I first started by making the shoulders and I left it as almost a brick until the end. I next used a huge lump of clay to sculpt a head and once I did that I pushed the eyes in and carved eyes out, after that I put a nose on and lips, and lastly ears. I started the process of hollowing it out however, once I got to the neck, everything started ti collapse. So I decided not to keep this piece. If I were to do it again I think that I wouldn't attach the head to the shoulders until the very end so that it wouldn't collapse.
This is my Alebreje, I chose to do a whale shark because they are unique creatures. I first made the main body and then I did the tale with no fins, after that I hollowed out the middle and the holes the mouth to make it blend in. After that I attached the fins and smoothed it out. I fired it without underglaze, the next step was 3 coats of the dark blue, and I ddi bright dots. I am very pleased with how this piece came out and I would not have done it any other way.
This piece is my wall hanging, useful piece and my artist inspired piece. I chose this for those three projects because I wanted to make a gift for my mom for mother's day, however I also wanted to make sure it could fall under all of the categories. My first step was to roll out a huge slab, next I trimmed it into a big circle, after that I used a small bowl to make sure I could keep the face. I cut the spikes out and after that I slipped an scored a big piece of clay to blend in for the face, to give dimension. Next I used clay coils for the nose, brow bones and lips. I made sure to make the lips big because it is suppose to be a women's face. I decided not to do eyes since I thought it would look weird. After it became leather hard I put a big hole in the top for a nail to hang it. I hollowed the back out so it wouldn't be so thick. I fired it and glazed it with 3 coast of yellow and I did details in orange. This is an Italian Sun which makes it artist inspired. I am super happy with how this piece came out and I think my mom will love it.
